We are using the ZD500 to produce QR codes based on a long string, starting with an ampersand.
When we generate the code from the variable data on our devices, the first two digits are cut from the code (in this case "&T").
When we use the print designer and print from a preview with manually entered code, or drop the string into a text field, we don't seem to have the problem.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar (we are printing from an iOS device).

This is the first time to hear such thing. Could the mobile device generate the string incorrectly? Would you share the ZPL generated from the mobile device?
We checked the output and saw and issue. we needed to append the design tools output for configuration, which enabled us to parse the correct data onto the badge.
