Call Agenda – 07/01/2015

RFD8500 review
SEVT Summit
Round table

Notes
RFD8500 (GenX) – Altaf Mulla

UHF sled which has RFID and barcode options – with imager and without imager
8500 is multi-platform – Android and iOS – windows in 2016 as needed based on devices. iOS support for v8.0
Timing: beta is going to start July 10th – waiting on software bug resolution – testing in-process with Target
Launch: Planned date of Sept 9th FCS shifted to October
Features for beta – barcode and scanning functionality – batch processing might not be available
Sled is best performing in its class – very high performance, battery life (5-6 hrs).
Accessories in plan – adapter for MC40 & TC55 – TC70 is not planned out of the gate but for post Rev A in Q1, 2016 – with TC70 the total solution would be a 2 piece solution due to weight of devices
Demo apps both for iOS and Android will help in testing for locationing, tags etc – beta will use the demo apps and any partner apps (beta partners included as part of extended development team)
Beta partners – 18-20 worldwide – specifically which customers who are working with RFID and partners currently engaged with those opportunities – feedback required by end of August.
8500 is completely build from ground up – TSL is a key competitor – competitive analysis will be released.  Performance is 500 tags per second for 8500 while TSL is 180 tags/second.  Higher acquisition range compared to TSL.  Battery capacity is 2x better for Zebra product. We developed our own radio called NGE – provides optimizations based on environment.
8500 support ASCII interface to work on multiple OS/devices.  No focus towards Windows yet.  In future a consideration would be taken based on Windows use cases.  Device supports HID mode.
For older Windows Zebra devices 5500 would work.
There is a iOS and Android SDK for 8500 being build.  Both will be available at Launch.  No Windows SDK at this point.
Multi charging options for 8500 – 3 slot cradle to charge – micro USB and a cup cable. Same battery as TC55 – able to use a lot of the common accessories as TC55.  TC55 + 8500 becomes a great combination with accessories. (key highlight point)

SEVT Summit – RFID

Helpful and needed interaction – both regional and global.
EMEA feeling is that lot of RFID stuff is focused towards NA
Combine with DCS summit – do this event late September –  in Rockville
Action: Please let Ritesh and Larry know about topics of interest for summit here: http://bit.ly/rfidsevt

Round table discussion

- No plans to create a new fixed reader product – no support for RS232.  Use case is towards a fork-lift reader.  Solution might be a Bluetooth dongle.
- List of validated Bluetooth dongles – Altaf to follow up
- Show a how-to document for getting notifications from SEVT and SE zone (Action: Ritesh / Larry)

i hereby want to add the following topics to the Agenda of the next SEVT RFID call on the 2nd of September:

1. Where can I find the notes of last SEVT RFID call on the 5th of August 2015.
2. When can we expect to have demo units of the RFD8500 readers available
3. When can we expect to have an updated presentation available of the RFD8500 with Frequently asked questions (as promised by the BU in the last call).
4. Is it arranged now that the SEVT RFID summit will be held from the 21st of October until the 23rd of October in order to book the flights and the hotel?
5. We need a AN440 for EU. I have entered a CPR 4 weeks ago but until now no answers/actions.
6. long term roadmap Zebra RFID products.

Kind regards

Charles Worm
