Here is the MR team response. This should bring back WM5.0 to WM6.1 using the following manual steps
1) Insert the SD card containing SBL upgrade package in the device.

2) Instead of "70XXw61X001Upgrade.exe" launch "StartUpdLdr_WM5.0.exe".

3) This will reboot the device and flash SBL. Once the device comes back up, do a manual cold boot (Pwr + 1 + 9) and immediately press and hold trigger keys at the side of device.

4) SBL menu will appear on the scrren. Select "Bootloader" (using arrow keys), release trigger keys and press enter.

5) Now select "AutoUpgrade using script file" and press enter.

6) Select file "Update.mcf" and press Enter.

This will start flashing all the WM6.1 images one by one and reboot to 010905 images.

this Workaround is indeed the solution but requires manuall intervention and a different package on SD card if you are deploying this remotely with MSP as G4S is doing. however think the underlying reason is that some MC7094 GPS configs and MC70 WM6.1 configs have the UNKNOWN PLATFORM inherited from a wrong config block being used in Manufacturing see SPR 16585 this fix can be installed on units exhibiting this issue either running WM5 or WM6.1 and then correct Platform is seen however performing the WM6.1 update is again failing as this fix is not correcting the config block area UK support will manually perform updates for G4S devices in the field but think we need to fix the underlying issue by looking at the config blocks of mentioned configs

Hiro, i am using the WM6.1_SBLUpdate  package including licence and launching 70XXw61X001Upgrade.exe. the same SD package works on other 500 pcs it just failed on some 70 pcs like outlined before do you know if the configblock for 7094-P2CDCRRA9WR maybe is wrong ??? as i stated the device shows ' UNKNOW PLATFORM '  and the error from 70XXw61X001Upgrade.exe  seems to be related to that.  ' invalid device type detected ' on other devices isee the normal Platform type as 0X702  MC70  Windows Mobile 5.0   and the upgrade goes through OK.

I sent your question to Tom Cassar. However, your issue may need to check the configblock of the device why it reports invalid platform. It could be the configblock is corrupted or wrong image. You can use full monitor to dump it to the Hyperterm or file so you can compare good block and your block byte by byte.

To upgrade WM5.0 device to WM6.1, you must use WM6.1_SBLUpdate package, not standard one BSP to another BSP package in WM6.1. You can contact Tom Cassar for your issue.
