I need to be able to capture barcode scan into code without having focus in an input box.
Can datawedge be used for that?

If someone is writing an Android app, they could use the Datawedge intent output plugin to deliver the barcode data to an "intent" in the app. This is probably not going to help you if you are trying to use an off the shelf app that is not being written with this funtionality in mind though. Details are in the integrator's guide.
