REMINDER - ADC is looking for the SE feedback on the information below - please review and provide your feedback if possible.  Thank you in advance.Hi All, After the ADC BU-SE technical summit, the ADC business unit wanted to get the SE feedback on a tool that Jose-Maria Echeverria created for a side-by-side scanner comparison tool.  I have attached the tool (yes some of the data is outdated) for reference.  What we are looking for is your feedback on the questions below to determine next steps for supporting this tool.  Can you please review the attached spreadsheet tool, and reply back to this posting answering the questions below? QUESTIONS WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOUR FEEDBACK ON:
(1) How will you use this tool? Please describe some scenarios.

(2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits that this tool offers?

(3) Who do you think it will be useful for? (SE’s, Partners, etc.)  Why?

(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)?

(5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful?
Thank you in advance, Rob Fitton

(1) How will you use this tool? Please describe some scenarios.I would use this tool to have fast access to product information even If I am working offline.
(2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits that this tool offers? It provides the ability to get information about our own and competitive products. Obtaining this information via the web is very time consuming.

(3) Who do you think it will be useful for? (SE’s, Partners, etc.)  Why?It would be very helpful for internal sales and partners in the same way. Getting the correct product specification fast. It also helps to avoid chosing the wrong product and to provides competitive product information.  (4) Overall,do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example,is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)?Yes, I think we should follow up working on this tool for the mentioned reasons. Maintaining and improving this tool would surely need a lot of work but it would be beneficial for all users. A similar tool for other product groups would bring the same benefit.(5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful? It would be also helpful to find products by specifications but this might be difficult to do with the given structure of this tool.Because there are of course a lot of older products listed, it  would be helpful to know if a product is EOL already.

Responses to RFP, Customer Solution Definition and also for Partners.
2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits. Being able to find this infromation in one place, which will save time. 3) Who do you think it would be useful for? SE's when doing RFP's Etc. AM's for positioning. And of course Partners, as they always find it easer to phone us as they are not sure where to look. 4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to it worth the effort to update and maintain it? Yes, without question, and it would be great if the other BUs and Marketing, could do the same. 5) Are there any other features missing that you would like to see? This would be useful for partners, SEs, and account managers.
(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)?
It would only be useful if it is maintained with up to date info.  People will soon stop using it if the info they require is not there or wrong. (5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful? Include:

the scan engine model number, supplier and date of introduction.

the release date of the model

the rrp

the numbers sold - ideally by region (probably too difficult)

(1) How will you use this tool? Please describe some scenarios. Competitive comparison
(2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits that this tool offers?Time saving not having to "dig on the web"

(3) Who do you think it will be useful for? (SE’s, Partners, etc.)  Why?SE's and AM's as a "information quick-source" for both competitive and internal info, Partners, well maybe not - we could potentially add a +/- section for the competitors with a bit more subjective info, that we not nessesarly want to chare with the partner landscape.

(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)?
Is it a "waste of time" for ALL the SE's to dig this information up when needed :-)
(5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful?Competitor ASP (lowest/highest price point, as far as we know)

(1) How will you use this tool? Please describe some scenarios.
Initially in two areas. One would be to insure and compare devices that could fulfill the customer's requirements to acquire and communicate data. The other woulf be to be able to compare Motorola equipment against out competitorrs to see where we meet, exceed or fall short of needed capabilities.
(2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits that this tool offers?
For speed and ease of acquireing information. To be able to go to possibly fewer locations for that information.
(3) Who do you think it will be useful for? (SE’s, Partners, etc.)  Why?
I think Account Managers could use this to to inquire and observe the capabilities of the Motorola products and additionally use the tool to see again what the competition has to offer. SE's could use it for similar purposes along with helping acquire information to answer a SOW (Statement of Work) on bids etc. Partners would gain similar information as we would and could make it easier to do business with Motorola.
(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)?
Absolutly yes.
(5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful?I agree with what was mentioned, Accessories and pictures next to all products.

A Andre Nahon

1.) good to see what for various products and differences.  2.) to get a quick overview ... can save a lot of  time to search this infos. 3.) for all of this company that works with our Products. 4.) a lot of people spend to much time to search details of our Products in out pages and tools. 5.) E-Mail & Phone # of the Productmanager and other Products . I my an advantage to have this for MCD , RF (AP-XXXX ), Licenes Models ( MSP, WS ect. ) . Quicklink to the PMBs and datasheets of that Products.

(1) How will you use this tool? Please describe some scenarios.
This tool would be used primarily to compare the features and functions of our current scanner products and to compare our products against the competition.
(2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits that this tool offers?
Since it is very time consuming tracking down the competitive information, this would save a great amount of time and allow us to compare feature to feature.
(3) Who do you think it will be useful for? (SE’s, Partners, etc.)  Why?
This would be useful for partners, SEs, and account managers. This would allow us instant access to this information since we are not always able to track this information down in a short sales cycle opportunity.
(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)?
Yes. This should help sell Motorola products. (5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful? The most important function would be to keep this information updated. If the information is not updated, the tool would be useless. I also noticed that the Handheld Products (HHP) scanners were not listed.

(1) How will you use this tool? Please describe some scenarios.
Competitive Analysis to see what is under the hood for various products.
(2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits that this tool offers?
One stop shop for great infomation. Don't need to look all over the place to aquire the facts
(3) Who do you think it will be useful for? (SE’s, Partners, etc.)  Why?
SE's , Partners , and most of our Sales Force. Centralized tool to see the big picture
(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)?
You Bet ! Maintance is key.... we don't want to show outdated product and not the new product releases
(5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful?Price / WebSites / Sales Wins / ..... Maybe build an ADC tool that does it all: comparsions, technical info, competitive wins, web sites, configurations, key contacts, etc....

P Pat D'Alonzo

(1) How will you use this tool? Please describe some scenarios. I would use the tool to educate the AM's, partners, customers and SE's, as well as utilizing the tool for RFP's.

(2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits that this tool offers?

It would allow us to quickly provide information to all teams including customers and partners a comparison of all Motorola scanners products and competitor products.

(3) Who do you think it will be useful for? (SE’s, Partners, etc.) Why?

Yes, I think everyone will use this tool mainly to save time and effort. Often I‘ve been ask from the AM’s and partners to provide a comparison chart exactly that this tools accomplishes.

(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)?

Yes absolutely as long as we maintain it and keep the information updated

(5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful?

I would like to see additional information for example highlight key differentiators Motorola products have over our competitor’s products. I would also like to see a web base portal.

W William Perryman

1) How will you use this tool? Please describe some scenarios. RFP/RFI responses, educating new employees on products. compare old units to new ones in our portfolio for technology refresh sales etc.
(2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits that this tool offers? Simple to use.  Main benefit is that it could be expanded across the entire sales offering from Motorola. ADC, MCD,WID,MSD should look at the feasability of sharing information across product groups with a tool like this.

(3) Who do you think it will be useful for? (SE’s, Partners, etc.)  Why? Everyone would benefit in time saved looking for current products to compair with other vendors.

(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)? Yes I believe it is.

(5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful? You could include accessories/caple options for each device with pictures so it could be used like the tool Ken Crafton has created in the central region. This would allow the tool to be used when not on the moto network.

K Katharine Winter

1) How will you use this tool? Please describe some scenarios. Useful for comparing new products quickly at a glance with others already on the market.
(2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits that this tool offers? Saves traveling through various webs sites trying to get information and its all comparable ie the same criteria is listed against each product, but needs to be kept up todate.

(3) Who do you think it will be useful for? (SE’s, Partners, etc.)  Why?Cant think of anyone who wouldnt benefit from this its a quick easy tool to get to information.

(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)? Yes completely we used to have something simular and when it was no longer updated really missed it.

(5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful?Dont delete obsolete products we still need the information when we are looking at refreshes particularly with competitive ADC's.

T Tibet Ogurtani

1. Product positioning and competitive analysis 2. It is handy and saves a lot of SE and AM time. 3. SE, AM and Partner 4. Yes exacly. 5. I would prefer it as a web based tool which is updated periodically. It should also work as a product finder given the specs.

N Nikolaos Mastorakos

1. I would not use this tool for comparing scanners but for finding the right model for the job (more like a configurator let´s say) 2.Free up time from partner calls upon which scanner to select. If they had a configurator at hand it would be much easier. 3.All teams (AM, SEs, partners) involved in sales process as it could yield a solution if few seconds. 4.I think it´s worth improving. We have too many scanner models that often cause confusion. We should provide better guidance (through the tool) towards which is the best model for the proposed task. It´s absolutely worth updating it. 5.I would like to see some sort of wizard or step-procedure. sometimes, differences between models are difficult to spot and might mislead the user. Links to datasheets and picture availability would also be a nice option. Rgds, Nikos Mastorakos

N Nikolaos Mastorakos

1. A configurator is what I suggest as the most suitable use for this tool. 2.Saves time especially from end users and partners asking for the right model of scanner for a specific task. 3.All teams involved (AM, SE, partner) as the tool would provide them with a solution in a much shorter time. 4.Absolutely. The tool should be updated and transformed to a configurator. We have too many scanner  models that quite often partners are confused and turn to SEs for guidance. 5.Picture availability and datasheet links are nice to have features. Rgds, Nikos Mastorakos

M Michael Powers

1) How will you use this tool? In one way I could compare multile Motorola devices to see if one was better suited than another. And, the other could be to compare Motorola equipment to the competitors to determine where we exceed, meet or donot match individual line item capabilities. 2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits. In utilizing this tool I would be able to compare and determine the smaller individual capabilities of the device(s). In some of our government SOW's (Statement of Work) it gives us extra credit if we exceed their basic requirements. Reviewing the Daa Sheet is informative but this tool would get down to the nity grity. 3) Who do you think it would be useful for? I think that the AM's could use it to determine what he is up against from the competitors and their capabilities along with their lackingof capabilties. The SE's could use it as descried in Question 1 and 2 in determininf what may be the best equipment that Motorola can offer in comparison to the customer's requirements, along with seeing what the competitors are offering. And knowing that knowledge is power, this tool would lend itself to giving us that power against our competitors while fulfilling the needs of our customers. 4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to it worth the effort to update and maintain it? Absolutly YES. Anyone that uses this tool would learn from it's information. But it does need to be current. 5) Are there any other features missing that you would like to see? Two pieces of information would be nice but would be difficult to obtain. One is the Date of Release and the other would be it's List Price.

M Mark Duff

1. Responses to RFP, Customer Solution Definition and also for Partner Skilling. 2. Saves having to repeat the effort that has already been gone through.  Free up more time for other tasks. 3. SE's for responses. AM's for positioning.  The same would be true for Partners.  They are often looking for this type of condensed data as they are not always aware of where to look or have access to all the resources. 4. Yes, without question. I'm not sure who produced this but lets see more of the same from the other BUs and Marketing. 5. I always get asked for MTBF.  I know this is sensitive but other manufacturers supply it.  Related accessories would be useful, especialy cable options.  Perhaps make Hyperlinks so you can jump straight to data sheets, case studies. All in all it's going in the right direction. All the best, Mark Duff SE UK&I MEA

(1) How will you use this tool? Please describe some scenarios.
Competitive comparison, finding the right mode
(2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits that this tool offers?
Great one-stop resource and time-saver
(3) Who do you think it will be useful for? (SE’s, Partners, etc.)  Why?
Both - SE for RFPs and competitive responses, AM and Partners for locatint the roight model etc.
(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)?
Absolutely - but on the regular basis
(5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful?PricingLinks to websites/datasheetsTo be not just a comparator but rather configurator e.g. "I need 3 mils on this distance and with this IP spec - what should I choose?"

C Charles Brugger

1) Usage: quick review of products strengths/weaknesses versus competition to either highlight strengths or change scanner strategy to better competition. This can be done very quickly with this fantastic tool! 2) Benefits:          -  Quick comparison to our own products for positioning          -  Quick comparison of our products with competition's          -  Quick gap analysis between products          -  Better positioning of strengths of our products for environment to competition's 3) Utility funciton:           - Very useful to SEs, AMs, TAMs, Partners 4) Overall Benefit:  YES 5) Missing Features:            - Security protection ( password )            - Functions supported within 123Scan and NG 123Scan            - List price

M Michael Holman

I tend to specialize in MCD products.  For me this tool is invaluable for bringing me up to speed on scanner features and funtionalities, especially for RFP repsonses. It sure beats browsing the PRGs and website. To bring this up during a pre-sale meeting is also very powerful.

J Joe Costa

1) How will you use this tool? Please describe some scenarios. Educating salesman and partners on what the best fit for a customer application would be (or after the fact what they SHOULD switch a customer to).  I am constant asked for just these kind of comparisons and specs.
(2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits that this tool offers? Side by side comparisons of what we offer and what the competition offers. To avoid customer disappointment when they  are sold the wrong scanner

(3) Who do you think it will be useful for? (SE’s, Partners, etc.)  Why? BOTH. Often I am asked what shoudl I sell (or what should I try to track down for a demo)

(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)? It is absolutely worth the effort. It will increase sales against the competition and avoid customer disappointments. In fact, if ADC engineering is not keeping abreast of what the competition is doing performance wise, how can they be doing their job?

(5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful? It needs to be expanded to include terminal scanning capability. It may have to have an internal vs. partner version. The lawyers may strenuously object to any compartison against the compeition on an external version.

G Greg Hillis

(1) How will you use this tool? Please describe some scenarios.
Comparison for obsolete scanners to new offerings. RFP responses
(2) Why would you use it? What are the main benefits that this tool offers?
Mainly so I don't have to search many locations for this data
(3) Who do you think it will be useful for? (SE’s, Partners, etc.)  Why?
All - frees up SEs from having to do detective work.   Allows partners to be self sufficient.
(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)?
Extremely worth while, but have it available online so it is accessible via the web and easier to maintain.
(5) Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful?Update it with all our scanners.   Maybe provide links to datasheets.

M Mark Mann

Team, See my comments below: (1) How will you use this tool?    A. I can use this for RFPs or quickly gauge the strengths or weakness with the other competitors product compaired to ours.(2) Why would you use it? A. Same as above.(3)Who do you think it will be useful for?    A. Both the SE and Partners could quickly see how we compare against the competition and whether we change the scanner type based on having or not having certain options.(4) Overall, do you think that there is a benefit to having this tool (for example, is it worth the effort to update and maintain it)?  YES(5)  Are there any other features missing that would make this tool more useful?    A.   Some features would be "what type of OS does the scanner support", "What RSM version does it support" and "What cable options does it support" RFP ask for what type of connectors, lengths and coiled vs straight.Cheers,
